How to Sync Samsung Galaxy Watch to Health Connect

Samsung Galaxy Watch is one of the most comprehensive health data sources available on Android. Your Galaxy Watch 4 through Watch 7, Ultra, or FE already collects heart rate, sleep stages, SpO², body composition, and dozens of workout metrics. How Do You Enable Samsung Health to Health Connect Sync?

Health Connect is built into Android 14 and later — no separate download needed. If you’re on Android 13, you may need to install the Health Connect app from the Play Store first.

Step 1: Open Samsung Health on your phone. Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) → SettingsHealth Connect.

Step 2: Tap Get Started. Samsung Health will open the Health Connect permissions screen.

Step 3: Toggle Allow All for both read and write permissions, then tap Allow. This grants Samsung Health full access to write your watch data into Health Connect and read data from other apps.

Step 4: Back in Samsung Health Settings, enable Sync with Samsung Account and tap Sync Now to push your existing data immediately.

Step 5: To verify the connection is active, open your phone’s Settings → Security and Privacy → Privacy Controls → Health Connect (the exact path varies by Android version and manufacturer skin). You should see Samsung Health listed with active permissions.

What Galaxy Watch Data Syncs to Health Connect?

Samsung offers one of the most complete Health Connect integrations of any wearable. Data that transfers: steps, continuous heart rate, resting heart rate, blood oxygen (SpO²), blood pressure (where available), blood glucose (if logged), sleep sessions with full stage breakdowns, exercise sessions with heart rate and calories, distance, elevation, power, speed, VO² max estimates, weight, body fat percentage from BIA measurements, basal metabolic rate, height, and nutrition data.

Data that stays in Samsung Health only: ECG recordings (stored as PDFs in the separate Samsung Health Monitor app), HRV (used internally for stress scoring but not exposed to Health Connect), stress levels, skin temperature, Energy Score, advanced running dynamics (ground contact time, vertical oscillation, asymmetry), skeletal muscle mass, body water percentage, and the proprietary AGE Index.

How Do You Fix Samsung Health Connect Sync Issues?

The most common fix: Open Health Connect settings and look for the “Consent to the processing of health and wellness data” toggle. If this is off, Samsung Health cannot write data. Toggle it on, then relaunch Samsung Health.

Ensure Health Connect is current. Version 1.0.23 or later is required for reliable Samsung sync. Update through the Play Store if needed.

Check battery optimisation. Samsung’s aggressive battery management can kill background processes. Go to Settings → Battery → Background Usage Limits and remove Samsung Health from the sleeping and deep sleeping app lists.

Continuous heart rate may be delayed. Samsung Health batches continuous heart rate data to conserve battery. Only manual heart rate measurements sync immediately. After a workout, data typically appears in Health Connect within a few minutes.

After changing permissions, relaunch Samsung Health. Permission changes in the Android Settings app don’t take effect until Samsung Health is opened again.
