How to Sync Your Oura Ring to Health Connect

The Oura Ring is a standout performer on Android thanks to one key advantage: it syncs HRV data to Health Connect, which it does not do on Apple Health. This makes the Oura Ring on Android one of the most complete recovery data sources available for apps like ScoreVitals. Here’s how to set up the connection and make sure all your data flows through.

How Do You Connect the Oura App to Health Connect?

The connection is managed inside the Oura app on your Android phone.

Step 1: Open the Oura app and tap the hamburger menu (≡) in the upper left corner.

Step 2: Tap Settings, then find Data SharingHealth Connect.

Step 3: If Health Connect isn’t installed on your phone, the Oura app will prompt you to download it from the Play Store. On Android 14 and later, Health Connect is built in — you shouldn’t need to install anything.

Step 4: Toggle on the data categories you want to share. Enable everything for the most complete integration: sleep, heart rate, HRV, respiratory rate, steps, workouts, active energy, resting energy, and mindful minutes.

Step 5: Tap Allow when Health Connect’s permissions screen appears.

Subscription requirement: Oura Ring Gen 3 and Gen 4 require an active Oura Membership ($5.99/month or $69.99/year) for Health Connect integration. Without a subscription, the Data Sharing option won’t include Health Connect. Gen 2 ring owners do not need a subscription.

What Oura Data Syncs to Health Connect?

This is where Android users get an advantage. Oura syncs the following to Health Connect: sleep duration and full stage breakdowns (Light, Deep, REM, Awake), heart rate variability (HRV), heart rate at regular intervals, respiratory rate, steps, active and resting energy, weight (if logged), height, workouts, and mindful minutes from Moment sessions.

The HRV sync is the key differentiator. On Apple Health, Oura withholds HRV entirely. On Health Connect, it transfers — giving ScoreVitals the data it needs for a full recovery pillar assessment based on your autonomic nervous system patterns.

Data that stays Oura-only regardless of platform: Readiness Score, Sleep Score, Activity Score, blood oxygen (SpO²), skin temperature deviation, stress score, Cardiovascular Age, VO² max estimate, Resilience Score, and chronotype insights. Oura’s proprietary algorithms never leave the Oura ecosystem.

For ScoreVitals users on Android, the Oura Ring provides excellent sleep stage data, reliable heart rate trends, and — critically — HRV for recovery tracking. This is one of the most complete non-watch data sets available on the platform.

How Do You Ensure Reliable Oura Sync on Android?

Open the Oura app every day. Just like on iOS, the Oura Ring stores data locally and only uploads to the app (and then to Health Connect) when you launch the app. The ring doesn’t push data in the background by itself. Make opening the Oura app part of your morning routine — check your scores, let the data sync, and it flows to Health Connect automatically.

Exempt Oura from battery optimisation. Android manufacturers aggressively manage background apps. Go to Settings → Battery → App Battery Management and set the Oura app to Unrestricted. On Samsung phones, also remove Oura from the Sleeping Apps and Deep Sleeping Apps lists.

Check Health Connect permissions after updates. Android system updates and Oura app updates can sometimes reset Health Connect permissions. Periodically verify at Settings → Security and Privacy → Health Connect → App Permissions → Oura that all categories are still allowed.

Sync both apps before midnight. For the current day’s data to transfer completely, open both the Oura app and the Health Connect app before the end of the day. This ensures the data pipeline completes for that calendar date.

If specific days are missing, open the Oura app and pull down to refresh. The app re-syncs with the ring and then pushes to Health Connect. Ring data is stored locally for several weeks, so recent gaps are usually recoverable.

Oura on Android delivers one of the most complete recovery data sets available. Connect to Health Connect and let ScoreVitals use your HRV, sleep stages, and heart rate data for accurate daily readiness scoring.
